I have laid before the Lords Commissioners

of His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Ellis' letter of the 29th instant (62801/29) transmitting a copy of a telegram

from the Governor of Hong Kong with reference to the

amendment of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Ordinance.

In reply I am to request you to inform

Mr. Secretary Amery that My Lords agree that the

amalgamation schemes and arrangements referred to in

paragraph 2 of Treasury Letter F.10158 of the 11th

September last are only schemes and arrangements with

other banking institutions.

A copy of this letter is being sent to the

Board of Trade.
